Aerodynamic Design Optimization of a Morphing Leading Edge and Trailing Edge Airfoil–Application on the UAS-S45

This work presents an aerodynamic optimization method for a Droop Nose Leading Edge (DNLE) and Morphing Trailing (MTE) of UAS-S45 root airfoil by using Bezier-PARSEC parameterization. The is performed hybrid technique based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm combined with Pattern Search algorithm. needed to provide efficient exploitation the potential configurations obtained PSO drag minimization endurance maximization were investigated these individually as two single-objective functions. calculations in framework XFOIL solver flow transition estimation criteria, results next validated Computational Fluid Dynamics Transition γ−Reθ Shear Stress Transport (SST) turbulence model. was conducted at different flight conditions. Both DNLE MTE optimized airfoils showed significant improvement overall performance, increased efficiency CL3/2/CD 10.25%, indicating better performance. Therefore, both show promising enhancing airfoil.
